Dr. Mervyn Bloom
Dr. Mervyn Bloom received his diploma in Optometry in Johannesburg, South Africa in 1976. He was inducted as a Fellow of the Optometric Association of South Africa in 1977. He was awarded his Bachelor of Science degree and Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston in 1978 and received his Optometric Glaucoma Specialist Certification in October 2001. Dr. Bloom has been working as an Optometrist since 1976 when he was affiliated with the only vision therapy practice in all of South Africa. He has been in private practice in Waco, Texas as well as San Antonio. From 1976 until 1991 he worked at San Antonio Eye Associates, an Ophthalmology practice. He currently specializes in vision therapy. Dr. Bloom is affiliated with the Bexar County Optometric Society, Texas Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. He is a member of the Neurological Optometric Rehabilitation Association and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. Dr. Bloom is also a member of the Vision Source network of Optometrists. In 2004 Dr. Bloom was a recipient of the Dennis Kennedy Excellence in Eyecare award. Dr. Bloom’s areas of specialization include; General Optometry, Ocular Pathology, Refractive surgery consultations, Contact Lenses, Developmental Vision and Binocular Vision, ADHD, Dyslexia, improvement of vision in athletes and head trauma patients and rehabilitation of learning related vision problems. He is a guest lecturer at the UIW Rosenberg School; of Optometry in Vision Therapy. Dr. Bloom collaborates with many different professionals to deliver the best care and treatment possible for his patients through the neurological and visual systems.
Dr. Joshua Jed Martin
Dr. Martin is a native of West Texas and the Texas Panhandle and is very excited to be practicing in San Antonio. He attended Texas A&M University where he was on the Dean’s List and received his Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Biology in 2007. Dr. Martin was awarded his Doctor of Optometry in May 2012 when he graduated from the University of Houston College of Optometry. He was recognized there with clinical letters of excellence in areas of Family Practice and Ocular Disease. Dr. Martin obtained his Glaucoma Certification in August 2012. Dr. Martin’s interest in optometry sparked from mission work in South America where he worked alongside an optometrist providing vision care for less fortunate individuals. Dr. Martin completed his clinical rotations of ocular disease in San Antonio and Austin. He is also a member of the Texas Optometric Association and the American Optometric Association. Dr. Martin currently practices at Vision Source MacArthur Park and Vision Source Alamo Heights in San Antonio as an Optometric Glaucoma Specialist.
